WELCOME...

Welcome to Oregon Community Education Association's website. "Our quest is to provide Oregon residents with comprehensive educational programs, life long learning opportunities, and a better sense of community involvement."

Oregon Community Education Association (OCEA) was founded in 1973 to provide a forum for educators and citizens to advance the community education concept. Our Mission: "To provide leadership in the creation of an educational environment in which citizen involvement and lifelong learning are essential."

The founders and sustaining members of OCEA are professional development Community Education stake-holders, I.E. educators, community and business leaders, school administrators, school board members and citizen volunteers all working toward the establishment of vibrant communities.

WHY THE NEED FOR COMMUNITY EDUCATION IN OREGON...

More than 600,000 Oregon children are in school this year. Their education is directly influenced by community educators, teachers, school administrators, parents, business operators, legislators, friends and neighbors. All strive to assure that Oregon children learn successfully and become good responsible citizens.

Increasingly, parents are working longer hours and commuting farther distances to support their families, and more children are being left on their own. Oregon children need community education programs that provide after school and summer activities, vocational job training opportunities, and family support. Communities need trained professionals to help families deal with life challenges that ultimately affect our children and the future of our communities.

OCEA members are experts in achieving educational goals and measurable objectives. We believe that education is a lifelong process. OCEA members are professionals in the development of community educational programs and their strategies.

Safe, well educated, community involved students make better adults, who make better communities. Together we can create a legacy of lifelong learning, community involvement and educational support.
